Go-Fit

Under the Food Security project, CFN was able to produce the food supplement Go-Fit 20 thanks to the Covid fund from one of its sponsors.
In 2012, CFN AB conducted a study on important nutritional values of locally available plants. At the time, the aim was to investigate whether malnutrition in The Gambia could be combated/prevented by a locally produced food supplement. Based on this research, a food supplement has been developed in the fight against malnutrition and hidden hunger: Go-Fit 20. This food supplement contains important substances such as vitamins A-B-E, zinc, magnesium and the good fats to increase the body resistance. It is made of peanut paste, honey and dried Moringa Oleifera. Go-Fit 20 makes a substantial contribution to building resistance in the fight against viruses, including Covid-19.

Tremendous results
3,000 units have been produced and distributed to 300 people and the results have been tremendous:
– Decrease in dizziness and lethargy
– Improved bowel movement
– Increased appetite
– Decrease in long term colds
– Decrease in prolonged fatigue
– Decrease in joint pain (often caused by not drinking enough water and too         much salt)
– Decrease in complaints of tightness of the chest

Due to the corona crisis and the absence of the tourist season, the demand for products from the training site also decreased. As a result, the employees were not always able to work a full week and therefore missed out on income during this already difficult time. Thanks to the production of Go-Fit 20, the staff could remain fully employed for the duration of the project.

Corona Food Aid

The outbreak of the Corona crisis brought an abrupt end to an already not very successful tourist season in March 2020. The border was closed for three months and The Gambia had a strict curfew and strict corona measures. People could not easily travel to work, there were shopping and sales restrictions, there were no tourists and many businesses were forced to close their doors. In a country where people live from hand to mouth, this means that from one day to the next they no longer have an income and therefore cannot buy food.
The Care for Natural Foundation stands for creating self-reliance, but this acute crisis situation led directly to the launch of several food drives. Thanks to the support of many, they were able to distribute food parcels to more than 350 families.

Healthy food for schoolchildren

In March 2021, CFN distributed healthy breakfasts at a number of schools and provided information about the importance of a healthy breakfast. The breakfasts were prepared by the staff of the training and production centre in Kololi and consisted of a baguette with homemade jam made from fruit from the project site in Mariamakunda. The children all received a jar of jam to take home. If they handed in the empty jar again, they got a boiled egg. The action was a great success.

Bridles for horses and donkeys

A CFN volunteer collected halters and bits in the Netherlands for the donkeys and horses in The Gambia. Because the drivers here often – through ignorance – lack the knowledge of how to harness their pack animals, nasty wounds often occur to the hoofed animals. By providing them with the right reins and bits, the drivers can safely take their pack animals on the road.

Women Garden

Mariamakunda is a village in the West African Gambia where there was little development a few years ago and therefore a lot of poverty. At its project site, CFN maintains a garden project for the local women, which provides a basis for growing food for their own use and for selling at the local market, for example. It also has a great social aspect for these women, it gives them a goal, togetherness and, very important, hope for a better future.
